Located on the West side of South America, bordered by the Pacific Ocean on one side, Brazil and Bolivia on the other, Ecuador and Colombia to the North, and Chile to the South, you can find the country previously inhabited by the Incan Empire. Peru is covered down the middle by the mountains and valleys of the Andes, but travelling to the West coast you will find a desert region and to the West with the beginnings of the Amazon rainforest. With a land area of 1,285,216 km2, Peru is one of the 17 most megadiverse countries, mainly thanks to its three main types of regions which are inhabited by a great amount of species.  

Peru is located at an intertropical latitude which results in unmarked season change. A tropical rainy climate prevails on its East side, temperate to frost climate according to the altitude in the mountains, and an arid tropical climate on its coast side. During its rainiest months, between December and May, Peru is struck by flooding of rivers and lagoons that particularly affect some of its tourist areas like Machu Picchu, because of which possible closures should be considered while traveling in this period. The best period to visit is during the winter, between May and September.  

Some of the most important tourist attractions are: Lake Titicaca, one of the highest in the world; Machu Picchu, the archaeological remains of an ancient Incan city high up in the Andes; the Nazca Lines, mysterious geoglyphs with shapes that can be seen from up in the air; Cerro Blanco, the highest dune in the world and a popular spot to practice sandboarding; and lastly, Lima, the capital of the country and the third biggest city in the American continent.
